Ultima Renault ad avere un numero come nome, la 19 è stata commercializzata nel 1988 con l'obiettivo di migliorare l'immagine del marchio. L'idea era di competere con le auto tedesche e di offrire un'auto con una finitura di qualità in grado di guidare per molto, molto tempo! Il rischio è valso la pena e il 19 è stato un successo immediato attraverso il Reno. La versione sportiva, battezzata 16S, è stata proposta in catalogo dal 1990. Anche qui l'obiettivo era sedurre e contrastare la concorrenza. E per fare questo, Renault ha anche lanciato una versione sportiva della Chamade, una versione con un baule, della 19! Sebbene non sia stato un successo commerciale, questa versione rimane popolare tra i collezionisti.

The last Renault to have a number as a name, the 19 was marketed in 1988 with the aim of improving the image of the brand. And to do this, Renault also launched a sporty version of the Chamade, a version with a trunk, of the 19! While it was not a commercial success, this version remains popular with collectors.
